New Budget-Friendly Electric Scooter Launches in India
Do you want a cheap way to travel in the city? Odysse Electric has just launched a new option for you. According to News18, the Indian company has released the Odysse HyFy, a small electric scooter that doesn’t need a driving license in most states. This affordable vehicle aims to help city commuters and delivery workers get around more easily.
Nemin Vora, who started Odysse Electric, explains why they made this scooter: “By addressing the needs of price-conscious commuters and last-mile delivery networks, our objective is to accelerate India’s shift toward cleaner, smarter mobility.”
What Makes the HyFy Special?
The HyFy costs just ₹42,000 (the showroom price before taxes and other fees). It has a small but effective 250-watt motor and can go up to 25 kilometers per hour. This might seem slow, but it’s why you don’t need a license!
- You can choose between two battery types:
- Graphene battery (48V/60V, 32AH) – takes 8 hours to charge
- Lithium-ion battery (60V, 24AH) – charges faster in just 4 hours
- Travel distance on one charge: 70-89 kilometers (depending on battery)
- Five color choices: Royal Matte Blue, Ceramic Silver, Aurora Matte Black, Flare Red, and Jade Green
- Weight: 88 kilograms (can carry up to 150 kilograms)
- Size: 1790 mm long, 750 mm wide, 1165 mm tall
- Ground space beneath scooter: 215 mm (helps avoid bumps and holes)
According to Zee Business, the HyFy comes with helpful features like a digital screen, cruise control (helps maintain speed without holding the accelerator), and different riding modes for city driving, parking, and going backward.
How Does It Compare to Other Low-Speed Scooters?
The HyFy is more affordable than many similar scooters. 91Wheels reports that the Avon E Scoot costs ₹45,000, while the iVOOMi S1 ranges from ₹54,999 to ₹74,999. This makes the HyFy a budget-friendly choice.
Scooter Model | Price | Travel Range | Battery |
---|---|---|---|
Odysse HyFy | ₹42,000 | 70-90 km | Choice of Graphene or Lithium-ion |
Avon E Scoot | ₹45,000 | Not specified | Not specified |
Kinetic Green Zoom | ₹71,531 | 100 km | 1.4 kWh |
Okaya Classiq+ | ₹59,999 | 70 km | 1.4 kWh |
Ola Gig (base model) | ₹39,999 | 112 km | 1.5 kWh |
As EVJoints points out, the Ola Gig offers a longer range of 112 kilometers, but the HyFy still provides good value with its lower price and decent range.
Growing Sales for Odysse Electric
Odysse Electric has been selling more scooters each month. SMEStreet reports they sold 569 units in March 2025, which is 80% more than the previous month.
- December 2024: 425 units sold (61% growth from November), according to EMobility+
- February 2025: 312 units sold (10% growth from January), according to Autocar Professional
- March 2025: 569 units sold (80% growth from February), according to SMEStreet
The Times of India reported that Odysse Electric planned a new factory that could make over 40,000 vehicles each month. They also got a big order from Zypp Electric for 40,000 vehicles over three years, as noted by Autocar Professional.
No License Needed: Good or Bad?
Ecozaar explains that electric two-wheelers under 25 km/h and 250W don’t need a license or registration with the Road Transport Office in India. This makes them accessible to more people, including some as young as 16.
However, the Times of India reports some worries about riders not following traffic rules, like skipping red lights or not wearing helmets. Some people want these vehicles to be registered to make roads safer.
- Benefits of no license requirement:
- More people can use eco-friendly transportation
- Supports government efforts to promote electric vehicles
- Makes commuting easier for those without licenses
- Concerns about no license requirement:
- Riders may not know traffic rules
- Harder for police to enforce safety measures
- Could lead to more accidents
TATA AIG suggests getting insurance for these scooters even though it’s not legally required. And Chetak advises that getting a license anyway can help you learn traffic rules and might help with insurance coverage.
Is This the Right Choice for You?
The Odysse HyFy offers an affordable way to get around cities without needing a license. It’s good for the environment and can save you money on fuel. With its growing sales, Odysse Electric seems to be meeting a real need in India.
Would you consider a low-speed electric scooter for your daily travel? It might be a smart choice if you want to avoid traffic, save money, and do something good for the environment.
