Rad Power Bikes Unveils New and Improved RadRunner Max Utility Ebike

Are you looking for a powerful way to get around town without a car? The biggest ebike maker in America just revealed something very exciting. According to NewAtlas, Rad Power Bikes has launched a refreshed lineup of utility ebikes, including their new top-of-the-line RadRunner Max model that can go up to 28 miles per hour.

Founded by Mike Radenbaugh, Rad Power Bikes has grown tremendously since introducing the original RadRunner back in 2019 to become America’s largest ebike company. The new bikes build on this success with more power, better features, and improved technology.

What Makes the RadRunner Max Special?

The RadRunner Max is what’s called a “Class 3 ebike” – which simply means it can go faster than most other electric bikes. While regular ebikes typically top out at 20 mph, this one can reach 28 mph, helping you get to your destination quicker.

  • Powerful Motor: The bike uses a 750-watt motor in the rear wheel hub that provides strong acceleration with 90 Nm of torque (that’s the pushing power that helps you climb hills and carry heavy loads).
  • Impressive Carrying Capacity: You can load this bike with up to 420 pounds (190 kg) total – that includes you, a passenger, and whatever you need to carry.
  • Battery Range: The standard battery lets you ride for up to 65 miles on a single charge, and with an optional extra battery, you could go as far as 125 miles.
  • Smart Technology: Features like radar detection to alert you of vehicles approaching from behind and integration with Apple’s FindMy network to help locate your bike if it goes missing.
  • Comfortable Ride: Comes with front suspension (80 mm travel) and fat 3.5-inch tires on 20-inch wheels to smooth out bumps.

The bike includes a special battery called “Safe Shield” that’s partially built into the frame for a cleaner look and better protection. You can choose from 5 different levels of motor assistance, and there’s even a throttle that lets you ride without pedaling when you’re tired.

Battery Range: How Far Can You Really Go?

Rad Power Bikes60+ milesOver 125 miles

Think about this range like planning a road trip. The standard battery could take you from one side of a large city to another and back without needing a recharge. With the extra battery pack, you could potentially ride for several days of commuting without plugging in.

Different Models and Prices to Fit Your Needs

ModelPriceKey Features
RadRunner Max$2,249Top speed of 28 mph, advanced features, maximum range
RadRunner Plus$1,799Mid-range option with good features
RadRunner (base)$1,499Entry-level model, more affordable

You can pre-order these bikes right now, but you’ll need to wait until early May 2025 before they start shipping to customers. This gives you time to decide which model fits your needs and budget best.

How Does it Compare to Other Ebikes?

The ebike market in America is growing very fast. According to eCycleElectric, about 1.7 million ebikes were brought into the U.S. in 2024, which is 72% more than in 2023. Mordor Intelligence values the U.S. e-bike market at $4.06 billion in 2025.

  • Main Competitors: Rad Power Bikes competes with other big names like Trek, Specialized, and Giant in the U.S. market.
  • Power Comparison: Rad Power Bikes and Aventon both typically offer motors around 750 watts, which is the legal limit in many places.
  • Acceleration Differences: According to Erik’s Bike Shop, Aventon models often provide stronger acceleration because they have higher torque (80-100 Nm) compared to Rad Power’s typical 50 Nm – though the new RadRunner Max now offers 90 Nm.
  • Safety Features: Rad Power Bikes leads in safety features, especially with their Safe Shield battery technology that makes the battery less likely to cause problems.

The notable Aventon Abound LR cargo bike stands out as one of the main rivals to the RadRunner series, offering similar utility features. However, the RadRunner Max’s combination of speed, range, and smart features gives it some advantages.

What This Means for Bike Transportation

Utility ebikes like the RadRunner Max are changing how people think about transportation. They’re powerful enough to replace car trips for many purposes but much less expensive to buy and maintain than a car. With the ability to carry passengers and cargo, these aren’t just toys – they’re practical vehicles.

The growing popularity of these bikes shows that more Americans are looking for alternatives to traditional transportation. As cities become more congested and people become more environmentally conscious, ebikes offer a solution that’s both practical and enjoyable.

Will your next vehicle be an ebike? With options like the RadRunner Max offering car-like utility in a much smaller package, it’s definitely worth considering. The future of personal transportation might be rolling in on two wheels rather than four.
