According to DriveSpark, a car news website, Toyota is making a super cool new electric car called the C-HR BEV. This car doesn’t use any gas at all – it runs completely on electricity from batteries! It will be in car stores in America in 2026, which is about two years from now.

This new car looks like a mix between a regular car and an SUV, with a sloped roof that makes it look sporty. Toyota calls it a “compact crossover SUV” which means it’s not too big and not too small – just right for families!

What Makes This Car Special?

The 2026 C-HR BEV is really powerful! It has 338 horsepower, which means it’s very strong and can go fast. For kids who don’t know what horsepower means, it’s how we measure a car’s strength – like how many horses would be pulling your car!

This car can go from standing still to really fast (0 to 60 miles per hour) in about five seconds! That’s super quick – almost as fast as some race cars! And it can drive about 290 miles before needing more electricity.

The C-HR BEV includes a NACS port for fast charging, recharging from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

Charging TypeWhat It DoesHow Fast It Works
Level One (slow)Uses a normal plug at homeTakes many hours to charge
Level Two (medium)Special charger for your garageCharges faster than Level One
Level Three (super fast)Big chargers at special stationsCharges from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes

How Does It Work?

The car has a big battery called a lithium-ion battery that’s 74.7 kWh in size. That’s like having hundreds of laptop batteries all connected together! This battery gives power to electric motors on both the front and back wheels.

The C-HR BEV has “All-Wheel Drive” or AWD, which means all four wheels get power. This is different from other Toyota cars that only use one electric motor for the back wheels. With motors on both front and back, this car can drive better in snow or rain!

According to Wikipedia, this car is built on something called the e-TNGA platform. This is like a special building block system for electric cars that lets Toyota make different kinds of electric cars easily.

Cool Features Inside and Outside

  • Big space for stuff: It has 25.4 cubic feet of room in the back for groceries, toys, or sports equipment
  • Giant touchscreen: A 14-inch screen (bigger than many tablets!) to control music and maps
  • Light-up inside: Colorful lights you can change to match your mood
  • Phone connection: Works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without wires
  • Color choices: Comes in single colors or cool two-color combinations
  • Wheel options: You can choose wheels from 18 to 20 inches big

Special Platform That Makes It Work

EV Pulse, another car news site, says the e-TNGA platform has five different modules that can be mixed in different ways. This helps Toyota make different kinds of electric cars without starting from scratch each time.

The Toyota Newsroom explains that the battery is built into the floor of the car. This does two important things: it makes the car stronger and helps it stay balanced when driving around corners.

According to Topspeed, this way of building can change many things about the car – like how long it is, how much battery it has, and what kind of car it becomes (small car, big SUV, etc.).

The Financial Express says this special platform helps the car drive more nicely with better control and smoother movement on the road.

Safety and Promises

This car comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which is like having extra robot helpers that watch the road and help keep everyone safe. They can warn you about cars in your blind spots or help you stay in your lane.

Toyota promises to fix things if they break: 3 years for most parts, 5 years for the engine parts, and 8 years for the electric parts. The EV Report says this covers 100,000 miles of driving!

According to Topspeed, the battery should keep working well for at least 10 years or 150,000 miles. Even after all that time, it will still hold at least 70% of its original power!

Why This Car Matters

Electric cars like this one are becoming more popular because they don’t make smoke or use gas. They’re better for our planet! Toyota is making this car because more people want to drive electric cars that can do everything a normal car can do.

The 2026 C-HR BEV will be sold in North America, which includes the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It’s designed to work with charging stations all across the country so you can take long trips!
