Delhi is getting brand new electric buses that will help make your daily travel cleaner and better. According to MobilityOutlook, the Delhi Government has started running 255 electric buses called DEVi (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchange) as part of their plan to make city transport better for everyone. These buses hit the roads in May 2025 and will run from two main places – Kushak Nallah and East Vinod Nagar.
What These New Buses Offer You
The DEVi buses are specially designed to make your travel comfortable. They have many helpful features that make them different from regular buses you might have used before.
- 23 comfortable seats for passengers
- Special access for people in wheelchairs
- Low-floor design making it easy to step in
- Air suspension for a smoother ride
The low-floor design means the bus floor is closer to the ground, making it easier for everyone to get on and off – especially older people, small children, and those who have trouble with high steps. The air suspension works like a special cushion that makes the ride much smoother when the bus moves over bumpy roads.
Women Taking the Driver’s Seat
One of the most exciting things about these buses is that many women are being hired as drivers and conductors. This is a big step toward making jobs equal for everyone in public transport.
Position | Number of Women |
---|---|
Drivers | 89 |
Conductors | 134 |
Total Women | 223 |
According to TOI, the depot employs 223 women in total, with 89 working as drivers and 134 as conductors. This shows a strong push to bring more women into jobs that were mostly done by men before.
According to AAP, the Sakhi Depot, which opened in November 2024, is the world’s first bus depot run completely by women. AAP also reports that Delhi wants to have 8,000 electric buses by 2025, with at least 20% of them driven by women drivers.
The Company Behind These Green Buses
PMI Electro Mobility, led by Dr. Aanchal Jain, is the company making these special buses. They are working with the Delhi Government to bring a total of 1,456 electric buses to the city.
- Works in 31 different cities across India
- Already running more than 2,500 electric buses
- These buses travel 100,000 kilometers every day without making any pollution
What makes PMI really special is that they run India’s only battery assembly plant that is led by women. This shows they care about both clean transport and giving women equal chances to work in technology jobs.
According to EVMechanica, the DEVi fleet includes women drivers, which shows PMI’s strong commitment to including women in India’s growing green transport sector.
